Fenway Park

The Red Sox call the oldest park in baseball home. Opening on April 20, 1918, Fenway has been the home to some of the greatest players in history. From Cy Young to David Ortiz with Ted Williams and Carl Yaztremski in between, Fenway truly is the home of heroes. In 1926 a fire ravaged the Left Field line. Being finnancially challenged, owner John Quinn decided not to rebuild it. Still now, Fenway’s left field line is one of the oddest in Baseball. After Tom Yawkey took over the team he tried to upgrade the park. Half-way through upgrades a fire again devastated Fenway. Nearly nothing was left undamaged. Yawkey decided to continue the upgrades. The 37 foot wooden wall in left field was burnt down in the fire and replaced with a 37 foot steel wall. The wooden seats all around the park were replaced with concrete seats. This made the place more Fire resilient.  When Ted Williams joined the team, who was a dead pull hitter, the bullpens were put into left field to bring the wall closer for Williams. Also the advertesments chaged on the wall. So the club decided to paint it green. Thus The Green Monster was born. In 1947 lights were put in, and in 2003 seats were added to the Green Monster.
